A pic from Rizal Park. |
The crowds in the Philippines can be pretty dense, but that is part of the charm of being there, as long as you have somewhere to withdraw to
later. The traffic can also be tiresome. Sitting in a traffic jam through a city for hours can make you pretty sweaty if there is no aircon in the car. We usually travel by 'owner jeep', a small locally built jeep. It doesn't go very fast, but it goes everywhere. No aircon!! |
|
This is the car we usually use when we are in the Philippines. It is an 'owner type jeep'. It doesn't go
very fast, but it goes everywhere, and has been a faithful servant for many years. It belongs to my wife's sister Jeanette,
who lives in Japan. I am driving here, but it is usually Jerry (on top) who drives. He can drive the car everywhere! |

Preferred means of transportation! |
The Jeepney is the preferred means of transportation when people is going somewhere. They cost next to nothing.
They are varying from pure scrapheaps to beautifully decorated and shiny transports. They are fun to use! |
|
Tricycles is the second most popular form of transportation if you are not going very far. They are not as cheap as
the jeepneys, but for westerners... still cheap. These are mopeds and small motorcycles up to about 125cc's with a sidecar with room for two persons. |
Tricycles is another form of transportation! |
Roxas boulevard. |
Roxas Boulevard is a street that runs through Manila along Manila Bay. Here you can go for a romantic walk in the evenings just enjoying life.
It also runs through Rizal Park, another popular place for locals and tourists. You are also close to a lot of the shopping areas in Manila. Manila has a lot to offer to shopping mad tourists. The supermarkeds are gigantic, and there is a lot of them. Mall Of Asia is not far away, and that is the biggest of them all. You need days to go through it all!! |

If you have the opportunity, New Years Eve in Manila is something of the coolest I have ever experienced. The fireworks alone was worth
the ticket to the Philippines, no kidding. My jaw had cramped up after looking up and grinning for the period it lasted, maybe 15 mins. or more? I didn't think it was possible. The sky was i flames!! Using some of the pictures of the fireworks will just be stupid, because pictures can never do the fireworks justice! Manila is known for its fantastic fireworks, and I can sign up for that. Marvellous!!! |

A mess of wires |
Take a look at the wires in this street. In Manila this could be seen everywhere. The incredible thing is, it usually works, but they do have a few black outs. The Philippines is a fantastic country, nobody can say otherwise. The people are so friendly and smiling, and I have fallen totally in love with the country, but it cannot be denied that not everything works perfectly. |

They say that you CAN swim in the Pasig river running through Manila City.
You will probably see some horrible things before you dissolve!!! Told by a taxi driver. There is talk about cleaning up the river, but it is a huge task that will take time and money. |
