Here is my mother Aud Kvalnes, age about 14, year:1954. (she got a camera at 13, soo.) She is married Aud Storheil.

It looks like Christmas time back in the day. My father, aunt Grete, my uncle Svein and farmor (grandmother) Nora.

Here is where a lot of the women worked before. Planteskolen is where they grow trees and other plants. Planting and picking was a seasonal affair mostly, so the women (and men ) only had work parts of the year.

Here our past King Olav is visiting Alstahaug, I think. This is where our famous poet priest Petter Dass lived and preached from 1689 until his death in 1707. Olav passed away January 17, 1991. King from 1957.

May 17, back in the day, I guess this is after 1953-54, since, if I am not mistaken, Farmor and Farfar’s house didn’t get built before then. They walked quite far then.

Military life has started, and dad will stay there for a long time.. 25 years I think.

1970’s

My brother Gunvald has been born. Mamma is reading a children book for him by the look of it.

Ooops, busted!

Gunvald is really not happy, and if I remember correctly, of course we mocked him for it, which didn’t brighten his day any, hehe. About 1977.

To the left is the only photo of Marivic as a kid. She was about 12. Not to many of me either as a kid. Below is me at about 17 years of age.

The 1980’s

My family moves back to Alsten Island where mom and dad comes from originally. Mom has finished her nursing school, and takes a job as manager at Tjøtta old age home. There she will stay until she retires. Dad gets leading positions in several companies over the years. I spend a few years in the military. Unn, Guttorm and Gunvald continues in school.

These four pictures are from my time in the military in northern Norway. We are enjoying more than some light torture in these pictures. Above we have been walking in the snow for five days almost without food. All we got here was a piece of flatbread and a can of blue mussels to share between us.

I got tired of the infantry, and started in officer school in the air defence system. I was trained as a cannon officer. Trying to lift the barrel of the gun proved to be impossible, heee
